ATTORNEY SCOTT ABDALLAH FEATURED IN KELO STORY EXPOSING INSURANCE COMPANIES WHO WRONGFULLY DENY CLAIMS

Feb 13, 18

Johnson Janklow Abdallah Attorney, Scott Abdallah, was featured in a KELO Investigates exclusive that exposed insurance misconduct and the efforts by the powerful insurance lobby to pass legislation that would cover up the misconduct. The KELO investigation focused on the common practice of insurance companies to routinely hire biased out-of-state doctors to refute the opinions of local treating physicians in order to wrongfully deny insurance benefits. Dr. Nolan Segal from Minnesota was featured in the story. KELO reports that Dr. Segal admitted in 2015 that he sided with the insurance company 85-90 percent of the time. A bill introduced in the 2018 legislature would have given insurance companies immunity from suit in state or federal court for wrongfully denying workers compensation benefits to injured South Dakotan workers.  After the KELO Investigates story was aired, the bill died in committee on a vote of 6-1.
