JOHNSON JANKLOW ABDALLAH HISTORIC OFFICES FEATURED BY FORUM COMMUNICATIONS

Mar 19, 25

The historic office space for the law offices of Johnson Janklow Abdallah LLP were recently featured by Forum Communications, which provides print and digital news throughout South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.   It was 91 years ago this month that the Dillinger Gang (comprised of John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, Harry Pierpont and Homer Van Meter) robbed the Security National Bank and Trust in Sioux Falls – now home to Johnson, Janklow & Abdallah LLP.  The bandits escaped with $46,000 in cash (the equivalent of over $1,000,000 today) and the money was never recovered.  Only 5 months later, John Dillinger was shot and killed by law enforcement as he exited a Chicago movie theatre.

The original vault where the money was taken has been converted into a lower-level law firm conference room.  The windows through which Baby Face Nelson shot a Sioux Falls Police Officer during the robbery are now adjacent to the conference room on the main floor of the law firm.  And bullet holes from machine gun fire are still visible on the outside of the law firm.
